Offensive Protection Magick: Hoodoo, Spirituality and The Occult
No matter your spiritual path, protection magick is and always will be an integral part of your practice. Although there are many ways to protect yourself spiritually, the focus here will be on offensive magick. That is magick that is designed with the intent to thwart spiritual attacks, hexes/jinxes and over all low vibrational energies in a non-reactive way; thus, shielding oneself. As opposed to firing back once the enemy is in your house, you lay boobie-traps in the front yard! I have found it better to ensure these energies are doused before they can truly manifest and get a “fix” on you to the point of no return because yes, some things cannot be undone so it is best to protect yourself at all times ensuring the spiritual safety of your life, home, bloodline and loved ones.
Protection is an area of your craft that must be practiced and honed daily. In order to effectively defend civilians, soldiers deployed or not, train consistently and are made to familiarize themselves with their surroundings, weapons, operations and even survival tactics. Consistently training and working in these areas ensure that if there were an attack, we are protected adequately! Imagine a soldier protecting your homeland with a weapon they have never used before in a situation they are untrained for! That is an alarming thought as is the idea of moving and operating along this path and being spiritually unprotected. Here are some ways you can protect yourself and home on a daily basis. Granted, most of what is touched on here will be based in the Hoodoo tradition but can be practically applied to every path. Remember that protection is something that must be practiced consistently so keep your spiritual guard up and be aware of your surroundings!
SULFUR:
Sprinkle a bit of sulfur (granted you are not allergic) in the soles of your shoes. This not only dispels negative energy from your personal space, it also prevents any other worker from getting ahold of your tracks. Some workers like myself will add a pinch of pepper to it as well. For instance, if someone uses hot-foot powder either by directly placing it on your foot tracks or by some other means, it will have no effect on you because of the sulfur in your soles.
Likewise, sulfur can also be added to the corners of the home to protect those therein. This is a great form of offensive magick for the home. I do this after I have done a floor wash for the inside as well as outside of my home.
FLOOR WASHES:
Floor washes are important and potent in regards to protecting the home. We often think of floor washes in terms of bringing in prosperity, love, money, cleansing and even peace into our homes and lives but they are particularly effective when used for protection magick. Water is a powerful component in the hoodoo tradition as it stands alone because for one, it is a conduit for spirit and energy. Thus, a perfect carrier for your protective works. To wash your home down in protective herbs just as you would do in a spiritual bath for yourself creates what I visualize as a forcefield of protection not only within but all around your home. Begin this work and I am sure you will feel a difference in your home!
SALTS AND POWDERS:
Hoodoo Salts and Powders are so vast and can be used in many ways! Within the hoodoo tradition, salts are often derived from different sources each with unique properties of their own and can be blessed and or worked for whatever intention the worker specifies. Salt is a powerful substance and is also transformative. A great barrier as well as we see reflected in wicca and other occult traditions. The most common use for salt is a floor sweep wherein the salt is blessed by the worker, often selected herbs and prayers are fixed into the salt that is then sprinkled on the floors of the home and or place of business and swept from the back to the front and out the front door. Brick dust is one of my good ole favorites! A simple wash of brick dust, water and Florida Water does wonders for protecting the home! Wash down your porch, steps and stoops with this wash and follow up with a bit of a sprinkle of the water throughout your front yard and property. An alternative to the brick dust would be to add cascarilla powder to the wash. This would be good for someone who may be concerned about the color of the brick dust going into the cement on your porch. This method is effective as well and will provide a palpable difference in your home's spiritual protection.
All of these magickal methods can and should be done with consistency. Incorporate it into your cleaning routine weekly or monthly, whatever suits you and what you know you can stick with! For more information, tools and products mentioned in this article visit: conjuresage.com
